| Welcome. No, I’m not the guy pictured in the corner. That guy in the corner is Dale Carnegie. My name is Jeff Cockrell. I’ve been a Dale Carnegie Course instructor since 1996. What I’m going to say may sound unbelievable; it isn’t. Isaac Newton (the guy who “discovered” gravity – not figs), said, “If I see farther than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” Dale Carnegie was such a man. He was such a giant. In 1912, at the YMCA on 125th Street in New York City, six men gathered together for the very first Dale Carnegie Course. The results were so life-changing for people, the changes so dramatic, the success stories so incredible, news of Dale Carnegie’s Course spread like wildfire. Now, this one program is taught in more than 80 countries, in over 20 languages and has over 7 milion graduates. What kind of people take a Dale Carnegie Course? People like Warren Buffett. See his comments on Fox News about the Dale Carnegie Course here. John Maxwell, one of the leading authorities on leadership today, took two Dale Carnegie courses before graduating from High School; Brian Tracy is a graduate, so is Zig Ziglar (in fact, Zig used to be an instructor for the Dale Carnegie Course and the Dale Carnegie Sales Course). Here’s a short list of other graduates - some you may have heard of.
No wonder TIME magazine recognized the farm boy from Missouri as one of the most influential people of the 20th century. What did he do to become so influential? Dale Carnegie was the first to figure out how to help people:
How many times have you let an opportunity pass you by? How many times have you been silent at a meeting when you had the right answer? Have you ever talked yourself out of making that sales call? Do you lie awake at night worried about providing for your family? If you're tired of fear having too much influence in your life, the Dale Carnegie Course may be for you. The difference is, when you want to learn more about Dale Carnegie Training, someone will visit with you personally. We don't hide behind some anonymous web site. If sports come easily to us, we tend to think it must be pretty easy for everyone else, too. If we like math, we just assume everyone else does, as well. Ironically, in many of the things common to the “human condition” – fear, discouragement, worry – we think we’re the only one. No one else has ever dealt with what we’re dealing with. When we see someone conducting a business presentation, standing in front of a group of people, and expressing himself (or herself) with poise and confidence, it’s easy for us to think, “Wow! I could never do that. They have a gift. It must be easy for them.” Ever seen someone at home in one of those “networking” meetings. They walk in, greet new people with ease, remember everyone’s name. Everyone wants to talk to them. And they look so relaxed! It looks like something out of a movie. And what do we think? “Wow! I could never do that. They have a gift. It must be easy for them.” How about those people that never seem to worry? No matter what life throws at them, they just motor along, stay focused, and turn things around. How did they learn to do that? Dale Carnegie taught people how to do all of those things - and much more. The result? As people took the Dale Carnegie Course, they became more successful leaders, managers, friends, co-workers, husbands, wives, parents, teachers. BUT...... The Dale Carnegie Course is NOT for everybody. The Dale Carnegie Course is NOT for you if you are looking for a seminar where you can go, sit in the back, listen to the speaker present, take lots of notes, go back to your life, put the notes on the shelf, and never put them to use. If that is your ideal of training, then this is not for you. The Dale Carnegie Course is NOT for you if you believe everyone else in the world needs to change. If everyone in the world acted like you, it would be perfect. If that’s your perspective, this is not for you. The Dale Carnegie Course is NOT for you if you think your boss is an idiot for making you take this course. It’s not your fault the people in your department have poor morale. If they just did their jobs, everything would be fine. If that's your opinion, this is not for you. The Dale Carnegie Course is NOT for you if your goal is simply to “check the block” because your company requires it for promotion or advancement, this is not for you. Here’s who the Dale Carnegie Course IS for you: when you want practical, down-to-earth practices you can use THE NEXT DAY to improve your life. when you recognize everything you want in life that you don’t currently have is owned or controlled by some other person. Whether it is a promotion we want to have, something we want to buy at the best price, a relationship we want to improve - someone else has ownership or control of it. So, the more effective we are at working and dealing with other people the more likely we are to achieve the things in life we want. when you want to stop driving people, stop micro-managing them and decide to develop a new skill set so you can start leading them. (How many times has an excellent salesperson been made the Sales Manager only to fail because the skills needed to manage salespeople are VERY DIFFERENT from those needed to manage customer relationships? Or an excellent Administrative Assistant to an Office Manager?) when you decide to stop letting your fear of an audience limit your future. You have good ideas that should be heard. You should be conducting meetings that work at work. You want to lead a Bible Study at your church. when you want to break out of a rut, take on new challenges, and seize new opportunities. When YOU decide to stop letting circumstances control you and choose to make the circumstances you desire. when you’re ready to unleash your potential, expand your horizons, become more effective and successful in working and dealing with people, reduce your stress and worry, and get more joy out of life and work, then the Dale Carnegie Course is for you.
